2 years ago, I had the good fortune to be contacted by Joshua Steadman, a filmmaker from Raleigh, NC. At that point, I had absolutely no clue who he was or what he was about. he proposed to film a moving portrait of me while he was in town for a commercial job with Samuel Adams.
My understanding of film directors, and directors of photography, that get flown across the country to do what they do, usually aren’t slouches or folks that found employment by happenstance. Clearly, Mr. Steadman has a knack for the moving visual as well as editing.
Joshua and two of his crew members met me at an apartment in uptown where I was filming a music video with Danny Chamberlain. In the throes of directing a short scene, I was able to take a seat outside the aparmetnt and give Joshua a few words… and a verse. We had a fair amount of fun with it, and at the end of the day, he gave me the video… whaaaaaaaaat?!?!?!?!
Damn near every film person I’ve worked wtih in a pro bono situation has always wanted to keep the keys to the film for their own channel and ownership. I mean, if anyone owns this lil piece of beauteous film, it’s Joshua Steadman. However, he just gave me the damn thing and said “Do what you will”. Delovely. Here it is.
